Create a short video presentation using place to describe one of the languages (math’s, science, technology) 3 –
LO1: Elucidate the language of maths, science, technology and movement in general and the context of early childhood.
LO3: Contextualise maths, science, and technology in relationship to the changing nature of education in an evolving local and global context.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
Drawing from our learning through the unit so far, use the theory of ‘place’ (sessions 1, 2 & 3 + Readings) to discuss ONE of the languages of maths or science. How does using ‘place’ help us as educators to define one of these languages?
Your video presentation can take any digital form but you need to ensure it is submitted as a video link. Visit the Learning Hub if you would like to learn more about using multimedia or design (unlocking creativity).
INSTRUCTIONS
To get started on your assessment task, please follow the below instructions.
Plan out your video presentation:
What language (math or science) will you choose?
What tool (PowerPoint, imovie, Prezi etc) will you use?
Which place do you think can be used as an example to describe your chosen language? Whether you choose science or maths as your language, the elements in ‘place’ need to NATURALLY EXIST there. The only things you bring to the place are yourself and your camera. You can walk down the street, visit a park, the city, even fabulous architecturally designed spaces might be useful.Playgrounds cannot be used.
How will you use place to describe your language? Think about what that place might have to offer.
NOW GO VISIT THAT PLACE – You must physically visit the place. You must be there and experience it, and reflect and connect and record that place from your perspective, you being in that space. This task is not about children. This task is about you and what you see for yourself. This is not about what children could do in this space. We have to teach from our own experience.
When you visit your chosen place, notice what draws you into connection.
Think about how the many elements (sky, rocks, land, animals, creeks, plants – more-than-humans) in place have agency
How we are entangled with these elements in place?
How we can use these entanglements to understand different languages such as maths and science?
Can you use this to help describe your language?
Use supporting research and theories from the unit to justify your connections
Make sure you include photos/ video of that ‘place’.
Begin using your chosen tool to create your presentation.
This is a presentation and you will need to include your voice in it. Please make sure your presentation is no more than 4 minutes long. Min 3.00 Max 4.00 min.

Make sure your presentation includes a properly constructed reference list uploaded as a word doc.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The following levels of criteria will be used to grade this assessment task:
Criterion 1: Multimedia tool and presentation (showcase)
Criterion 2: Discussion connecting place to the languages of either maths or science
Criterion 3: Use of resources to support the presentation
