Suggested structure for your written report
1. Your assignment should have a title that summarises the data story.
2. Introduction, including the source(s) of your data, how you collected and collated the data. (Make sure you have an adequate arnount of data — the minirnurn is 40 rows with at least 2 quantitative variables and 1 qualitative variable. The data should be in a spreadsheet that you submit along with your Word docurnent.) What question(s) are you trying to address? (e.g. “What notable trends are in this data that reveal a story?” “What relationships are revealed by looking at this data?”).
3. A selection of summary statistics presented in tables in your written report. In your Excel document all variables should be summarised and calculations/formulas apparent. Choose some of these statistics for your data story. Look for trends, shapes in the data, similarities and differences. Draw conclusions with comments — you need to do more than just list the summary statistics.
4. A selection of charts, with comments and conclusions, in your written report. Your Excel spreadsheet will contain exploratory graphs and charts. Choose a range of these for your written report. Refer to the marking rubric for guidance.
5. Use external sources to compare your conclusions to others.
6. Consider the limitations of your data story. This could be included in your concluding paragraph.
