Wicked Problems – Many kinds of wicked examples problems range from poverty, climate change & education. Covid – 19 is also seen as wicked problem now as many kinds of variant is popping out from nowhere. Wicked problems are never completely solved, no clear problem of definition, take longer time to evaluate solutions, involving multiple stakeholders with conflicting agendas and straddling organisational disciplinary. Wicked problems embedded in business, life and society. Evaluation will be done by, mapping the wicked problems, open search, mapping of virtuous solutions and test assumptions.
I gave my example of wicked problem in assessment 1 on covid-19 issues. Covid-19 was first reported on 31 December 2019 from Wuhan, China. It then spread over the world in 2020 very fast and causing the whole economy to suffer and close for travelling. It’s also known as SARS COV2 – severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus. During the pandemic outbreak, doctors and medical biology scientists can’t figure it out what exactly has happened, and it took them almost 6 months to finding the root cause. Antidote was not available at the point of the breakout virus as we are not prepared for this outbreak. The world health organisation did take the case lightly when it was first reported at the year of 2019 as they thought it was like a normal flu virus. Case grew more and more around the world, and they then declare pandemic on 11 March 2020. The world health organisation gathered all source of intelligence to create an antidote or vaccines for this virus. They test multiple of vaccines into volunteers to see responses of the effects. Stay safe advice also has been roll out by the WHO while the vaccines are being pushed for development. Physical distancing, wearing a mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue is one of the advices given. When the vaccines have been finalised, AstraZeneca and Pfizer were the first 2 vaccines being launch worldwide. After weeks of the roll out there are cases where people have side major effects like blood clots, cardiac arrest and died from the vaccines. Some of the vaccines have been recalled and re-introduce based on age gap groups. Vaccines are not the antidote of not getting the virus. Its mission is to generate codes spike in our immune system and learn to recognise and fight against the virus that you might be affected. Which means you might still get the virus even you had the vaccine. Hence the reason why I state this is a wicked problem as, even you had the vaccine you will still be able to catch the virus but not as serious as not getting the vaccine and lots of people around the world had doubts of getting the vaccine. Its making people feel uncomfortable and anxious as this is a life situation.
Evaluation and investigation of the cause is done by the world health organisation.
Solutions is still in the grey area, advice to be followed, getting 2 shots vaccine, practise wearing mask, social distancing, wash your hand regularly and listen to your local health government updates.
The world must keep moving and we are now in the stage of living with the virus.
Tame problems
Cases whereby is well defined and stable, know when a solution is reached, solutions are clearly right or wrong, belonging to a class of similar problems which can be solved in a similar view.
Examples are, when covid 19 hits Australia and all around the world, the political government declared closing the international borders immediately as to avoid international transmission into the country. When businesses failed due to closures as lockdown was being forced in individual states, the financial treasure came with a financial assistance help for the businesses and people who have lost their job. Jobseeker is also introduced for people who have lost their jobs and helps businesses to pay wage to their effected employees. Hygiene advice is also introduced to the public such as, always wearing face mask when in an open public area, social distancing rules, check in via QR codes to track individual people locations just in case of being infected and they can track down immediately, washing of hands regularly, avoiding large crowds and coughing and sneezing into tissue or cover by your elbow. Policy also have been set on when you have been infected, what should you do and not do. Medical emergency response on standby 24/7 for major cases. Medical staff well equip to not be infected when face an infected patient.
Wicked problem for this issue is even people are getting vaccinated, new strains keeps coming out such as Alphacoronavirus, Betacoronavirus & HYPERLINK “https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deltacoronavirus_(genus)” \o “Deltacoronavirus (genus)” Deltacoronavirus. States comes out of lockdown and then went back to lockdown. Interstate border closure for Queensland and New South Wales on the tweed council area whereby there are zero cases since 2020. Its all still in the grey area of solving this pandemic issue within Australia. The Government is working on a safe plan to get everyone to be vaccinated so we all can go back to our normal living lives, but we all know that its not going to be happening real soon as this is an ongoing virus situation. Vaccines are there to protect you but it’s not 100% guarantee that it will help you. Some people still don’t believe in this pandemic, and they don’t believe in vaccines. The government is still working on how to solve these issues.
Tame problem for these issues is financial and health advice given to the public to follow as to avoid situation for you to be infected. Education also have been moved online as to avoid cases within the younger generations and the adults. Restaurants mostly accepts card transaction instead on cash as to avoid close contact with money.

People must adapt the new changes policy and to move forward with it.
